Hello, and thank you for joining us.
In this video we're taking
to look at the upcoming,
Becoming a Linux Server Administrator
series.
And what is becoming
a Linux Server Administrator series?
Sure, you know a lot of people out
there wan to learn the Linux operating
systems, it's very popular and most people
get their start working on a desktop.
You install Linux on your laptop, or
your PC, and that's how you learn it.
But in real life land where Linux really
dominates is in the server market.
And you'll find that running Linux
on a server is a lot different
than running Linux on a work station.
So in this series what we do is we try and
get the users accustomed
to working on a server.
We show them that environment,
what it's like working with Linux in
a server environment and the different
administrative tasks we have to perform
to keep that system up and running.
It really helps to take your Linux skills
from hobbyist to professional, and
get you out there in the real world using
trade skills to manage Linux servers.
And who is the show targeted towards?
Well, this could really apply
to a number of different people,
if you work for a company that implements
Linux servers and you're responsible for
supporting those servers this
series should be great for you.
Cuz we're gonna help you ensure those
servers are installed properly.
And show you how to maintain them.
And run the different services
that are inside of there.
If you're just curious about
how Linux servers work,
this is a great series for you.
But if you're looking to
run Linux on your desktop,
well that's not really a thing
we're going to be covering here.
In fact, we're going to do very very
little with the graphical user interface.
So if you're just getting
started with Linux,
this will be a pretty harsh spot to start.
So, the typical viewer for the series
is gonna be somebody who already
has experience working with
a Linux operating system,
maybe not servers but
at least experience with the OS itself.
And is ready to make that jump.
If you're somebody who's just starting
out, wanting to get that first taste
of working with Linux,
I encourage you to check out our Linux for
Beginners series, or
our Becoming a Linux System Administrator.
Different than server administrator.
System focuses on the desktop.
We use a lot of GUI utilities and other
things there, and you get that experience.
But this one, this series is dedicated
to that person that's got to support
servers and work in that environment.
Is there certificated available for
this?
No, you know this series is
a little bit different than what we
create normally on [INAUDIBLE] TV.
A lot of our content is
certification based but
here, it's more real world skills based.
I wanna show you guys what it takes to
be able to manage these systems and
give you more of a hands
on practical example.
So as this series goes through, you'll
see where we're doing just examples,
labs we're actually working
with the equipment and
getting it set up and
using it and implementing it.
Without having to worry about what
question is on a particular exam.
There are some great certifications
out there if you're looking for
Linux certifications we have several
on our own site like CompTIA Linux+.
You can check those out and get certified.
But if you're just looking
to get the practical skills,
that's what this series is all about.
Now what topics
are covered in this show?
Well you know, we cover a big range.
We start with the really important stuff,
which is how you install a Linux server
and how you get it initially set up.
There's a lot of initial configuration
you have to go through to get that Linux
server in place and deployed correctly.
We talked a little bit about securing and
hardening a Linux server,
which is another really important thing
because these servers are typically
exposed to the Internet, and
that makes them a security risk.
So we've gotta make sure that
they're configured properly.
After that, we're gonna break
down into individual services.
And we'll take a look at
how to set up a web server,
we'll talk about how to
set up a database server,
we'll talk about how to do Samba and
file sharing, NFS, another file system.
And so different kind of roles that
your Linux server can perform.
Now we're gonna take a look
at these from the basics.
Take for example a database server.
If I wanna set up MariaDB.
Well, we could have 100 hours of
content on how just to setup MariaDB.
So in this series it's
more of an introduction.
How we get the database server deployed,
how we connect to it,
how we make sure it's secured
properly to be able to put it in use.
But you can carry that knowledge on and go
into the more advanced courses later on to
learn more about these
individual products.
But here we'll look at how to set up
all these difference server types and
get them running in
the production environment.
That sounds great.
Becoming a Linux server administrator,
if this sounds interesting to you, and I'm
sure it does, watch all the video content
in becoming a Linux server administrator.
Thank you for watching.
See you soon.
