[SOUND] Hello everyone and
welcome to OneNote for Windows 10.
I'm your host Vonne Smith, and in this
course overview, we are going to be going
over well, what exactly are we gonna
cover in this particular series?
Who is this series for, do we need to
know anything before we get started,
and any extra tidbits that
I have might for you.
So, what are we gonna talk about?
What we're gonna talk about
from the very beginning,
we're gonna introduce what is OneNote?
Why do we use it?
What would I benefit from
by using this application?
As we're gonna identify that, talk about,
there's OneNote for Windows 10 but
then there's OneNote 2016.
Are they different?
They are, so that's why we have
two separate series on it.
We're getting started with
the actual application
by talking about a Microsoft account or
an Office 365 account.
We talk about two different types of
users of this product, because of
course it is a application that works on
the operating system, not with Office 365.
You don't have to have that there.
So we're gonna get in, get started with
signing in, what about opening and
closing our notebooks?
What is OneDrive?
Where is it?
Or at least that's where we're going
to be putting our files into, so
we cover all of that in this introduction.
We also talk about the interface
of the application.
Making sure you understand
where the ribbon is,
how to get around in your notebook,
and actually create a notebook.
We'll start a brand new one and
create our sections and our pages.
Then we'll move into adding content into
those notebooks with text, tables, images.
We're gonna draw in there,
we have a lot of cool drawing tools.
And we're also going to add
in links within our notebook.
And I normally think links
as like out to a website or
something like that,
we're talking about internal links.
It's more of like cross referencing and
it's actually used to help navigate
in the content of your notebooks.
We're also going to be copying from
the web and talk about the web clipper,
which is really cool.
And what OneNote does
automatically when we go ahead and
get information from the Internet.
We'll also insert some attachments,
we'll talk about the PDF print out and
we'll also add audio and
video into our pages.
Then we'll move into our topic of
organizing and managing those notebooks.
We're gonna tag stuff up,
what does that do for
us and
how does it help organize ourselves?
We'll also be using this search
functionality of OneNote, so
hey I don't remember where I
put the stuff about the cats.
Or I mean, it's gonna be everywhere but
we wanna go ahead and search for
that, so
we'll go through the search options.
We'll also have a whole episode
on that is called organize and
manage where we're going to be
moving sections, moving pages.
How do we make section groups?
We're going to be going over all of that.
Stuff that may be covered in other places,
but
we try to keep it one
nice central location.
And then we're also gonna talk about
our history with our page versions and
our deleted notes.
We're going to proof which isn't nearly as
extensive as some of our Office products.
We'll print, and then we'll also
talk about the inversive reader,
which can be really handy and
helpful for specific audiences.
More towards people maybe learning
another language, or learning English,
or how to help with readers,
and maybe more graceful level.
And maybe as an educator, or
a parent, you could go ahead and
use that to help somebody
with their reading.
And we'll move in to collaboration
security, sharing is caring, so
we'll learn how to share notebooks.
And then sometimes with notebooks,
you might not want people
to see certain places, so
we're gonna learn about how to password
protect sections in our notebooks.
And we'll also talk about how
OneNote works with emails and
meetings which could be Outlook,
we have that Outlook aspects since we
will have an account whether it's free or
a full Office 365.
I bet how you can use that to your
advantage and collaborating with others.
Who is this for?
Anybody really, you do not even have
to use Office products, you can just
have a computer with Windows 10, that's
all you need to be able to use this.
So it can cover everybody,
whether you're an Office user as in
capital O with the Office 365 or
just you're in an office,
you're self employed, right?
You just want this in your personal life.
How can I use it to help organize it cuz
this is the digital notebook application
and it's really, really handy.
So it can go across all spectrum
of work and personal life.
We start at the very
beginning with our basics and
we move up into an intermediate
level of OneNote.
The nice thing is this
program is not too deep.
There's not as much we need to know
in comparison to Word or Excel.
So I would say it's a fairly easy and
intuitive application,
do you need to know anything?
Not really, okay?
You need to have Windows,
that's one thing.
So you definitely need to be a Windows
user and you do have to have Windows 10.
And having maybe some basic
knowledge of the operating system,
that would definitely help.
Do you know where the File Explorer is?
Do you know where the start menu is?
Because I just kinda do it,
I don't fully explain everything.
So maybe a little bit of just
using a computer could help.
You don't have to have any
knowledge of OneNote or
really any of the Office products,
but its always helpful, okay?
So if you know a little bit about Word,
you know a little bit about a Microsoft's
account whether you've already
used one because you play on Xbix,
that might be kind of nice.
Normally in my series I have files,
I have exercise files that I use for
you to follow along with.
In this particular series,
I don't have any.
I don't have any exercise files,
because what I'd really like
you to do is create your own.
When I'm creating a notebook,
you create a notebook.
When I insert an image,
you insert an image.
So I don't have specific resources for
you to work with.
This is an application that
you could start from scratch.
And just get in there, start playing
around with it, follow along, but
we do have the episode notes.
But I do refer to hey go ahead and
find the PDFs of the notes that I'm
reading from when I do the episodes.
That is included, but
there are now exercise files.
Side note, if you wanted a notebook,
you could get them from
the OneNote 2016 series.
But since it's a little different,
you might not actually be able to
use those now that I think about it.
So you know what,
just create your own, you'll be fine.
What do we need to know?
I just mentioned there is another series,
and I do cover OneNote in other platforms,
meaning on a Macintosh environment, on
an Android phone, on a iPhone, on an iPad.
So we just kind of glaze over it, this
particular version of 104 Windows 10 is
going to be the most applicable
to your other platforms, okay?
There are always gonna be little
differences here and there but
if you wanna check that out,
I would go to that particular series.
And if you just wanna learn more about
the OneNote 2016, we do talk about how
this particular product, this meaning
OneNote 2016 sorry let me clarify that.
Is not going to be archaic
to Microsoft anymore and
the Windows 10 version is going
to become the new default.
So that third bullet point on the side
right here updates happen it's
gonna happen a lot in this product.
I foresee this particular product being
upgraded pretty significantly, pretty
regularly, over the course to kinda get
it up to speed to where it was in 2016.
So updates are going to happen,
things are going to change in this.
And of course,
there's always other options with that.
I try to cover everything, but
I might have missed a few things.
So there's always going to be other
ways to do the same things that
I'm doing on the screen.
You might find some different ways, and of
course, since we're gonna have all these
updates, and we might find other ways
to do things, there's good answers.
And go see the Microsoft support pages,
just go ahead, and
use your favorite search engine,
and find the information about it.
Definitely make sure you type
in OneNote for Windows 10,
because you might find information
on 2016 that's not going to match.
So be careful about that when you
are searching for your answers.
Everybody uses products for different
reasons maybe you work, maybe you don't.
Maybe you're a stay at home parent, that's
something that you can still utilize
those products in your everyday life and
it can be really, really helpful for you.
And of course, when you're learning,
I want you to have fun, try it out.
That's the way that we
learn all these things,
is just get in there, see what it can do.
Watch these episodes, and then you try it
out on your own, and have fun doing it and
I will see you very soon
in some future episode.
