Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8
Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8 Overview
The Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8 (RHEL 8) course on ITProTV is designed to introduce the viewer to the RHEL operating system. In this course you will learn how to install RHEL, manage networking, configure services like NFS, harden security through features like SELinux, and support virtual machines all on top of the RHEL platform. The course is targeted towards systems administrators tasked with supporting Linux and expects the viewer to already have a working understanding of the Linux operating system.

Hello and thank you for joining us for
Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.
This is the show we're
gonna learn about RHEL,
the Linux operating system created by,
well, Red Hat.
Now, Zach, before we get too far,
why don't you introduce
yourself to our viewers?
Well, my name is Zach Memos.
I am, well, I'm a host and as soon I'll
be just me I guess one day [LAUGH] and
I have some experience with Linux, but
I've never actually jumped into Red Hat,
so I'm really excited about this time.
And then for me, I'm Don Pozet,
I have been working with
Linux since the early 1990s.
I've worked with a ton of destro's but
in production environments,
my focus has always been on Red Hat.
And so that's what we're gonna be learning
right here in this course because it is
super important that we have a stable,
reliable operating system and
production environments.
I have a background in the banking and
insurance industries where we deployed
numerous enterprise Linux servers and
no not just Red Hat, but
predominantly Red Hat.
Awesome, and so if I'm watching this,
Don, what can I expect to get out of it?
What's in it for me if I'm watching?
Okay, so this is a little different
than some of the courses we do that
are based on a certification exam.
This one isn't.
This one is based on actually using
RHEL and so you're going to learn
about the things that are involved
in installing Red Hat and
then maintaining it,
keeping it running troubleshooting.
All the things that are gonna be expected
of you if you're a system administrator
that they've been given
RHEL servers to maintain.
So getting up to speed on that is really
important that you're comfortable in your
job and
you're able to keep everything going.
So this is all about skills,
not so much about certification.
And the structure of the show is
very important to the structure,
the goals of the show.
If you will, what can we expect?
All right, so we've tried to arrange
this in the way of somebody who is has
some experience with Linux but
hasn't necessarily worked with Red Hat.
So we're gonna start with some
basics like getting Red Hat,
enterprise Linux installed.
How we even obtain it?
Talk a little about subscriptions, that
we'll talk about configuring networking
and some basic services to get it up and
running.
And then after that we're gonna focus on
the things we can do to make it run better
like security settings.
We'll talk about hardening in the various
security features that are a part of real.
We'll talk about optimizing storage.
And then we're gonna move into
maintenance mode, how we keep it running?
the various troubleshooting techniques and
tools that we have available to us and
the things that are expected of us to
keep our system healthy and happy.
And lastly we're gonna throw in just a
dash of virtualization because that's such
a popular thing.
So how you can build a virtualization
environment in RHEL all that is included
in this series.
Just a pinch.
And why are you excited about the course,
Don, I can tell you are?
So I'm excited about because I love
Red Hat, the platform is amazing,
it's super stable.
Right now,
there's a popularity wave on Ubuntu and
some of the other destro's
that are out there.
But if you get paid to support Linux,
you will develop a quick and
rapid appreciation for RHEL.
A lot of people don't get exposed
to it because it does cost money.
This is a great chance for
me to share that with you, the viewer.
You get to see RHEL, learn about it, learn
how it works, learn the advantages and
get exposed to something that
that is a little new to you.
And it's really one of my
favorite operating systems.
So that makes me glad to teach it.
Thank you, Don, I'm excited too.
So please join us for Red Hat
Enterprise Linux 8, we'll see you soon.
Thank you for watching IT Pro TV.
