WEBVTT (Music) Hey, welcome in. I'm your host, Lauren Deal, and I'll be your learner advocate as we go along. And we're gonna be jumping into a course called Security and Risk Management. And with me is Robin Abernathy, welcome in. Thank you, Lauren, thank you, I'm happy to be here. I'm excited to jump into this with you, but tell us a little bit about your experience. So I have been involved in this IT certification preparation business and writing material for a little over two decades. So and I've written for a lot of different titles now. I say I've written I'm not as comfortable here talking with you seeing me and you hearing all that's going on with my southernness and my diphthongs. But buckle your seat belts, we're gonna have a lot of fun in this course, guys. And there's so much to cover. I can't wait to cover it all with you. She is a lot of fun to film with and she says she's shy in front of the camera, but she's fantastic with content. With her writing and her speaking, this is gonna be a joy. So let's talk about some of the things that we're gonna cover in this course. Now, Security and Risk Management, this course as a whole is a foundational element for any security studies that you're gonna be partaking of later. So this establishes a really good foundation so that you're gonna understand a lot of the terms that people use and a lot of the things that people talk about. In this course, we're gonna talk about some security concepts. We're gonna get those fundamentals. That's the things like the CIA triad and other things. Then we're gonna go into security governance. We're gonna take some times to talk about legal, regulatory, and compliance. We talk about security documentation. We go into personnel policies. Then there's a section on business continuity. And then we have a pretty large section where we do a deep dive into risk management. Remember, all of these concepts, the way we're discussing them in this course is as a foundational element. We're not going super deep into these concepts, but we're making sure that you understand them. So as you progress in your cybersecurity learning, that you understand the terms that we're talking about. And this is a fantastic course. I'll be learning along with you, asking questions. But then Robin has been so kind as to put some great notes together, some really great resources. And if there's anything that spurs any interest, you can dive a little bit deeper into some topics that interest you. Now Robin, before we get started, who might be interested in jumping into this course with us? Well, you're gonna be, this is aimed toward a more management-like audience. It is a foundational course. Anyone could technically sit down and watch this. But if you're thinking of someday transitioning into a manager position, where you're managing an IT department that has to consider cybersecurity at the forefront, this would be a great learning course for you to get those foundational elements in your head so that you could then progress through other areas and broaden your knowledge and your skill set. Well, this is gonna be a really fun course and we invite you to join us. So what do you say we start our first episode?
