The Azure Virtual Desktop Infrastructure
The Azure Virtual Desktop Infrastructure Overview
The Azure Virtual Desktop Infrastructure course helps you plan and implement the required infrastructure for a successful AVD deployment. This course assists you with the most key elements you should be concerned with including network connectivity, user data storage, host pools and session hosts, and your ability to easily manage session host images. All of these elements are critical for a smooth and successful Azure Virtual Desktop implementation.

Welcome and thanks for
joining us for this overview
for this module which is titled
Azure Virtual Desktop
Infrastructure. I'm going to be
your host with the most for
this course, Sophie Goodwin.
I'll be asking questions along
the way that maybe you have at
home, things that you're
wondering and I'll be
functioning as a learner
advocate for you. Of course,
we've got Anthony Sequera over
here to my right, and he is
going to be walking us through
this material as our subject
matter expert. Could you tell
us a little about yourself,
Anthony? Sure. I have been
working with
Azure Virtual Desktop since
Microsoft released this
product, but before then doing
a lot with Cloud technology,
AWS, Google Cloud Platform,
certainly Azure. Prior to that,
my specializations were really
in networking. All this stuff
goes together. Also, I've been
helping to support Microsoft
Windows since Windows 3.1 and
the old server operating system
called Windows NT. So it's
really neat to be doing this
now, seeing this technology
really, really expand from what
it once was. Now,
who is the, I guess you
would say the target audience
for this course. Who should be
watching this? Yeah. So it is
really anyone that is going to
be responsible for
Windows via the Cloud and
that's probably going to be
people in the Microsoft support
roles, networking support
certainly. So if you have just
even the slightest bit of Azure
under your belt, you're in the
right place. As we move
throughout these episodes,
we'll try and make sure we do
demonstrations and define all
of the Azure technologies that
you'll need. So you said if
you've got some Azure knowledge
under your belt already, that's
going to help you here. Is
there any other prerequisite
knowledge that we probably
should have going into this?
Yeah, I would know a bit about
Windows. So have some Windows
support behind you. Again,
Sophie and I will really try
and make sure that we cover
what things are. We won't just
assume that everyone in the
audience has heard about this
stuff. So can we maybe take a
look either just at a general
overview or maybe physically
what we're going to be
learning? Yeah. So what Azure
Virtual Desktop is all about,
let's go to my desktop because
it's perfect. Look at here,
Sophie, as you know, I run a
Mac and this is actually one of
the M1 Macs. What does that
mean? It means it is a
non-intel chip. Why that's
relevant is there's no boot
camp where I could run Windows.
Many of the popular
virtualization programs don't
even support running Windows on
this M1 Mac. There's an app
called Parallels that will
allow me to run Windows.
But what's interesting about
that is some of the apps that I
needed to install on Windows
wouldn't work because they
didn't recognize the underlying
M1 chip from Apple. So now more
than ever, I need another
solution to running Windows on
this Mac. And here you can see
I have fired open a remote
desktop session and I have this
session desktop right here.
If I double click this pretty
darn quickly, we're going to
get a login screen. So let me
put in the password for this
user.
And once I put in this
password, we are going to see
the fruits of our labor in this
course.
Fingers crossed. But what we're
going to access here, as you'll
see, is none other than Windows
11 inside of the cloud. Look at
that. And Sophie, you would not
be able to tell that this is
not running on my local
desktop. Let me fire open an
application I installed like
the Adobe Acrobat Reader.
And here it is. And it looks,
smells, tastes just like
Windows running on this Mac.
But we know this Windows 11 is
actually coming to us via the
cloud. And this is what Azure
Virtual Desktop is all about.
And
we'll be taking a closer
look at some of this stuff in
this module. But now you have
an idea of kind of what that
looks like and what we're going
to be getting into in some of
these demos. So I think that's
pretty much going to do it for
this overview. That'll do it.
Covered all of the basics.
So thank you for joining us and
we will see you in the course.
