Hello everyone, my name is Vonne Smith and
this is Microsoft 2016 Advanced for Mac.
In this course overview,
we're going to be covering exactly
what is in this particular course.
Who is the target audience,
who is this made for?
What do we need to know about
before we get started, and
any tip bits of information
that we have extra?
In this course, there are two main topics.
There is the graphical elements and
automation.
So this is where we're going to be
focusing on those elements that,
well are graphics, things like images.
We're gonna talk about how you can
put images into your document,
all about the important textwrap, and
even a little bit of document and
image resolutions and
how you should kind of be aware
of the sizes of your images when you go
ahead and place them into your Word files.
We're also going to be getting into
shapes and how to format them,
how to make them,
how to make them different colors,
and talk about all the fun stuff
you can do with the styles.
We're going to talk
about SmartArt as well.
I love me some SmartArt.
It's a nice way to be able to display
your information in a graphical manner.
Give a little bit more oomph to that
information within your Word documents and
your different reports where
things like org charts and
different ways that you want to
demonstrate cycles or diagrams.
That would be what we have for SmartArt.
We're also going to be
getting into tables.
Tables is where you go ahead and organize
information into rows and columns.
You might think, hm tables don't seem
like images and graphics, but it
is that graphical element of a different
way of representing that information.
And how it works differently in a table
format and how that table interacts
like a graphical element within
the rest of your document.
We'll also be getting into charts
where we will be making some
clustered column charts.
We'll be making some pie charts and
just understanding the foundations
of charts because there's a lot of
terminology that is associated with
charts that it kind of throws people off.
So we really kind of start at
a foundational level and then go ahead and
insert as another graphical element.
Let me get into automation.
These are things to help make your working
in Word faster and more efficient.
I'm going to start with templates.
Everybody loves templates but I feel
that people kinda use the terminology
a little bit, well, not exactly how
you're suppose to use it in Word.
So we clarify what
exactly is a template and
how to correctly use a template in Word.
We also get into macros.
How you can record your steps and
be able to play them back.
That can really take the time that it
would do for multiple steps just kinda
put it all into one little clickable
button and be able to run that anyways.
But of course, there are some down sides,
some security issues that we need
to cover within those episodes and
we do a good job of letting you know how
to be safe with your macros in using Word.
Get into some linked objects
about putting in some Excel
data into your Word document, how you can
link back to that particular file, and
all the nuances that are with that.
And then we get into
the ever popular mail merge.
We go into making some
different letters and
we do labels and
envelopes and lots of fun.
So who is this for?
All Office users with a capital O, meaning
that this is for the Office 365 users.
It doesn't matter if you're in a physical
office or if you're at a home office or
just, you know,
you're in your living room.
So that's why we have
that capital O there.
And I call this the upper
basics to advanced level.
So this is where,
kind of going into that prerequisites,
you're gonna need to have a little bit
of a foundational knowledge of Word.
We have the Word Essentials series, so
that is more like a precursor
to this particular course.
So things like you need to know
about like what is a style.
You need to know about page layout,
how to select text, how to format text.
All of those kind of foundations
of Word would be very helpful for
this particular series.
Then you do need to know a little bit
about your Macintosh operating system,
understanding what the Finder is.
We do get into a little bit more
of a keyboard shortcuts in this
particular series, so
just having familiarity with that.
And, of course,
being familiar with other Office products.
We will be talking
a little bit about Excel.
If you've never used Excel,
you might wanna watch a show that we
have in our course library about that.
But knowing one helps with other Office
products, so that's always a good thing.
We do have exercise files and
episode notes that accompany every single
one of these particular videos that
you're going to be watching, so
definitely check that out.
They should all be available to you
right here within this course overview.
Meaning, all of the exercise files for
every episode within this show,
so check that out.
And if they're ever missing or if I'm
referring to a file that's not in that,
let us know.
We need to know and make sure that we
have all of our ducks in a row for
you guys to be able to follow along
with me and have lots of fun.
And talking about fun,
we have some extras.
This is always something I talk
about in all of my course overviews,
is there's always other options.
There's a whole bunch of
ways to do things in Word,
so if I haven't covered all of them,
there's a lot of them.
Updates do happen and different versions,
being that this is an Office
365 product and is always updating,
you might be on an older version or
a younger version than
the one that I'm using.
So definitely check that out,
you can always see if you need to
have updates from your Help menu.
And you can always check out
what version of a product
that you're using through your
account settings in the home tab or
the backstage view when
you go into the file menu,
you should have some options there to
show exactly what version you're on.
Because that may make a difference as
to what you're seeing on your screen
versus what I'm showing on my screen.
Always searching for answers.
The internet is a wealth
of information out there.
I do reference a lot of the Microsoft
help files within the notes.
That should be a good place to start.
But do some searches on your own to
get those answers that you might need.
Everybody uses these products differently.
So maybe you're really interested in mail
merge, well we have some episodes on that.
Maybe you don't really use charts but
it's always good to know
that it's available and you never know
down the road when you might need that.
And always have fun.
I know it can be frustrating sometimes
when you're trying to figure out like why
doesn't this chart wanna move around.
Well, we got that wordwrap on it.
But just remember to just kinda, while
we're learning, have some fun in here.
We like to have fun and I hope you do too.
And I will see you in
some future episodes.
